PRESS RELEASE (17/07/2013)
Thursday, July 18, a Loano, will close the second edition of the review “The trash that we were!”, promoted by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano and organized by the I.So, with the artistic direction of Paolo Borio.
The evening, in the’Prince's Garden Summer Arena (Liberty Avenue), will open at 9:30 pm with the delivery of the City of Loano Award “Trash Film! Laughing Italian Style.” To the actor, character actor and director Camillo Milli and then will continue with a concert by the Gem Boy.
The Milanese actor Camillo Milli acted for more than 50 years alongside all the actors of Italian comedy: Pozzetto, Villaggio, Banfi, Manfredi, Sordi, Tognazzi, to name a few of the better-known ones, and as a stage performer, he was particularly popular in Goldonian plays. In the 1960s and 1970s he was also very active in television where he starred in several scripted plays.
Although he does not have major roles, he is one of the best-known characteristic actors in Italian cinema, especially for his likability and skill. We remember him in the role of the president Borlotti in “Coach in the Ball”, acted together with Lino Banfi, of the cruel director Barambani in “Fantozzi vs. everyone”, of the blind (inattentive) in “I won the New Year's Eve lottery.” and the Dr. Piedimonte in “Rimini Rimini” All three acted alongside Paolo Villaggio.
Camillo Milli became a famous face thanks to the role of the bartender he played in a 1957 Carousel, along with Ernesto Calindri, where a very famous tune was sung, ‘Since the time of the Garibaldians, China Martini...China Martini...” - The actor, who lives in Genoa, still stars in the soap opera “One Hundred Showcases”, playing the role of a bartender and is one of the leading actors of the Teatro Stabile di Genova.
After the awards ceremony is over, the curtain will rise on Loano Cabaret, which will host for the occasion the Gem Boy, demented music group popularized by original covers of cartoon theme songs and hit songs.
I Gem Boy were born for fun in 1992, when budding singer-songwriter (not because he smoked) Carletto began to rewrite lyrics on well-known songs making fun of his friends“ circle. Within a few years rocambulously from the first homemade cassettes with a lineup made of 2 people, they found themselves in 5 spreading their ”cover-parodies“ on the net in the form of mp3s. This will be their good fortune as they will spontaneously create a following of avid supporters who will spread like wildfire within a short time. So in 2000, despite being complete unknowns to the recording world, people flocked to their concerts singing their sexually charged versions of hits by Ligabue, Cremonini, and cartoon theme songs (just to name a few). When they decided to get involved by producing their first ”real“ CD "Urban Internets” with unreleased lyrics and music, the success is unexpected (15,000 copies). From then on it is a continuous crescendo of artistic maturity and awareness of their own means for Gem Boy. After several changes of band elements we arrive in 2004 with second album, a small masterpiece of DIY art, Blanched, from which the single “2 of spades” complete with a video broadcast for several weeks on MTV and All MUSIC.
This brings us to the present time with the lineup captained by the stainless Carletto (voice and lyrics), the gentle giant Max (keyboards), the free-range J.J. Muscle (guitar), the eclectic Denis (bass), the cool Matthew (drums) and the ever-present factotum Sdrushi (sound engineer), and Gem Boy arrived in 2006 at their third work “Gynecology“, very rich in songs (18), mature, perhaps their best album that boasts big names among the musicians and sound engineers who collaborated on it. The videos for “Balla coi Lapi,” “Giambel V” and “Goldrake at the Restaurant” are produced from this work.
In 2007 a small miracle takes place: the Gem Boy, despite their language certainly not for children, meet Cristina d'Avena and it is immediately poetry. It begins a collaboration that shows the good and dreamy face of the goliardic band. Tutt'ora you can often find in concert around Italy the eternal little girl Cristina loved by children (and not only) accompanied by the more restrained Gem Boy, but still fun to play with Cristina and her theme songs.
Arriving in 2008 on a shoestring budget, within three months, a bet was born: you don't need big studios and productions to make a good product, in fact Gem Boy put all their eggs in “Fiches” and its gambling songs. This album confirms and consolidates the band in their musical style and ability to snatch laughs. Their records are not enough to understand this little Italian phenomenon made by these guys half from Bologna and half from Modigliana (FC) and if you really want to fully enjoy their show made of music, gags, desire to entertain and have fun interacting with the audience, don't miss their live concerts.
The evening is at FREE ADMISSION.{:}
