For the thirteenth consecutive year, the beaches and sea of Loano have been awarded the Blue Flag, the international recognition that Fee bestows on coastal resorts that meet certain criteria from the standpoint of water quality and services offered.

The Blue Flag was established in 1987, the European Year for the Environment. It is awarded annually in 48 countries around the world that meet criteria related to sustainable land management. The campaign is overseen in the various countries by the Fee, Foundation for Environmental Education. The parameters on the basis of which the Blue Flag is awarded are many: bathing water quality, wastewater purification, environmental certification, waste management, accessibility at beaches, environmental education and communication, and sustainability initiatives.

“This umpteenth Blue Flag,‘ explains Loano Mayor Luca Lettieri, ’not only constitutes an important confirmation of the quality of our marine environment, but also rewards the environmental policies that the Loano municipal administration has pursued with commitment and constancy in recent years. From the tourism point of view, having obtained for the thirteenth year in a row (a ”string' that I believe constitutes a real record) the Fee recognition represents a guarantee of quality for all those who frequent our coastline and our sea during the summer season and throughout the year. Those who come on vacation to Loano know that they will find top-notch services, a beautiful sea and a healthy marine environment. I would like to personally thank all those who have contributed to our city achieving this important banner. By now Loano and the Blue Flag represent an indispensable pair.".

Environment Councillor Remo Zaccaria and Tourism Councillor Enrica Rocca add, “The 13th consecutive Blue Flag rewards the work done in synergy by the municipal administration, categories, associations and ordinary citizens, tourists and residents. Small but important initiatives such as the ban on smoking on the beach during the summer season or the garbage collection days on the coast carried out by Pro Loco Loano together with the Falcone students or the awareness campaigns organized in schools (also as part of the Green Flag-Eco Schools project) contribute significantly to keeping our marine environment ‘healthy’. In order to safeguard the beaches and the sea, it is necessary for each of us to make a personal commitment every day. This umpteenth Blue Flag testifies to that very commitment. On behalf of the administration, we thank the technical department, the environment department and other offices that collaborated for the excellent work done in preparing the documentation and applications.”.
