Sports will be featured in the Loano September. The program sponsored by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano in collaboration with the sports clubs will range from cycling to basketball, volleyball to sailing, bocce ball to running.
“It is now a tradition for our city," explains Councillor Remo Zaccaria - Dedicate September to sports, focusing especially, but not only, on youth activities. Throughout the month of September, but also in October, sports activities will intertwine with tourism, offering athletes and fans pleasant weekends at Loano. This initiative is part of a broader strategy that aims to support and enhance the sports-tourism combination with the goal of fueling tourist attendance. Every time we host a sporting event, the presence of athletes, instructors, referees, managers, chaperones and the public helps to increase job opportunities for tourism and trade operators.”
To inaugurate the September Sports, Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8, will be the Italian bowls category c cup final, which will take place in the Bocciodromo (Alba Street).
On the same weekend, Sunday, September 8, the bicycle race will be held 1st Kids on Bike Trophy, organized since’A.S.D. Loano Cycling Team. The competition will involve the very young male and female category (7/12 years old) and will close the Savona Province Cycling Tour, organized by the Provincial Committee of the Italian Cycling Federation. The registration meeting is at 12 noon at the Como bar (Carducci Street). The start is at 3:30 pm.
From Sept. 12 to 16, the Marina of Loano will host the regattas of the Italian Olympic Classes Championships (CICO), organized by the Yacht Club Loano and Yacht Club Marina of Loano in cooperation with the Italian Sailing Federation.
The “CICO” represents the tricolors of the Olympic classes, a kind of mini-Olympics of Italian sailing. For nineteen editions this event has brought together all the Italian championships of the classes admitted to the Olympic Games. An opportunity to develop technical knowledge, to create an exchange between crews, bringing young people closer to top teams or former Olympic team members.
In 2013, the event will be held in two locations: a Riva del Garda from Sept. 5 to 8 for the 49er and 49er FX Classes , Nacra 17, while at Loano, from the Sept. 12 to 16 for Classes 470 m/f/j - Laser Std and j - Laser Rad. f/j, Finn, 2.4 open and RS:X m/f.
Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15, in the Sports Hall “E. Garassini”, men's youth basketball will return with the XXVth edition of the Palms Trophy, organized by the A.S.D. Basketball Pool 2000 Loano.
Saturday 14 the category Under 14 will be engaged in the interregional triangular. From the hours 16.00 Will face each other on the Loano field the companies Vado basketball, PMS Moncalieri, Valencia. Each match will be three 10′ halves with 2′ intervals.
Sunday 15 the category Under 17 will play an international triangular. The format will be the same as the first day, again starting at 4 p.m.. Playing will be the societies Basket Pool 2000 Loano, Lugano Basket and Canaletto Spezia.
Sunday, September 15, Loano revives the spectacular competitive running race Tour of the Walls - Paolo Romanisio Memorial, coming this year to the’eighth edition.
The growing participation of athletes from all over northern Italy and the presence at the race of illustrious names from the international cycling scene give hope to the organizers, who this year have set a goal of reaching 500 entrants (not counting youth races). The route is now the traditional one, over the distance of 10 kilometers, which will see the competitors engaged on the seafront (entirely cleared of cars for the duration of the trial) and around the perimeter of the ancient city walls, with evocative passages in Piazza Italia and the old town. The meeting and finish will be in Italy Square, the departure (10 a.m.) in Cadorna Square. Participating in the competition will be Tunisian champion Khelifi Mehdi winner of the Varigotti Loano half marathon, the Moroccan champion El Mounim Mohammed, winner of the last two editions, Valerio Brignone multi-titled and Italian cross-country champion, the champion Ornella Ferrara former Olympian, Emma Quail 6th place at the last world marathon championships in Moscow. Among the teams appear the’Casorate Athletics present with its champions including Abbatescianni and the team Cambiaso Risso of Genoa Italian cross-country champion.
Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22, will feature the youth volleyball with the 6th Riviera of Palms National Tournament, organized by the’ A.S.D. St. Pius X Volleyball.
Four trophies in all will be played over the long weekend of sports: the’9th Liliana Tassara Trophy reserved for the category Under 18 Female, the 11th Giuseppe Guzzetti Trophy for Under 16 Women's, the 7th Domenico Dama Memorial for Under 14 Women's and the 2nd Pollupice Trophy for Under 18 Men's.
The tournament will be held on 8 courts: four in Loano (Palazzetto dello Sport , PalaGuzzetti, two courts of the Giovanni Falcone Institute), two in Finale Ligure (Palasport), one in Toirano (Palazzetto) and one in Borghetto S.S. (Palazzetto).
It will be played starting at 14.30 by Saturday 22, simultaneously on all fields until the 20.30. Sunday 23, will begin at 9 a.m. and until 1 p.m. will be played on all courts. The finals will be played from 2:30 p.m. at the Sports Hall of Loano.
The Loano sports season will continue in October with the Baietto Trophy L'Equipe Class(Oct. 5/6), organized by the Nautical Club Loano and with the half marathon Run Riviera Run (October 27), organized by the Run Riviera Run Association, Atletica Run Finale and Oroargento Group.
