{:en}The Municipality of Loano has also been awarded the title of “City that Reads” for the 2018-2019 biennium. The recognition is issued by the circuit of the “Center for Books and Reading” (Cepell) in agreement with Anci and is aimed at promoting and enhancing municipal governments committed to continuously carry out public policies on their territory to encourage reading.

In recent days, the “Center for Books and Reading” published the lists of municipalities that have implemented “good practices in the field of reading promotion” and obtained the qualification: Loano is among them.

“The intellectual, social and economic development of communities depends on reading,’ explains Loano Mayor Luigi Pignocca, ”It is with this in mind that our municipal administration, in concert with the many entities active in the area, is constantly working on organizing events and manifestations aimed at encouraging reading, especially among the youngest. The promotion of this very important activity does not only pass through book reviews, meetings with authors and support for publishing projects, but also by guaranteeing citizens of all ages free access to books in libraries and bookstores and the many projects carried out in synergy with schools.".

Culture Councillor Remo Zaccaria adds, “The objective of the recognition of ‘City that Reads’ is to recognize and support the socio-cultural growth of the community through the dissemination of reading, considered a value capable of positively influencing the quality of individual and collective life. It is precisely to try to achieve this goal that in recent months our administration launched the ’Pact for Reading,‘ which aims to systematize the work done by the municipality, educational institutions, associations and private entities in our city directly engaged in the promotion of reading in all its forms.’.

The efforts of the city administration and the various associations and organizations in the area involved in the Covenant had come to fruition in “LOA Reads in Every Corner,” the large reading event held last May 6 with spontaneous reading events in different parts of the city.

The new recognition, which repeats the one already obtained in 2017, is a confirmation of a constantly growing teamwork. Councillor for Culture Remo Zaccaria therefore wishes to thank all those who believed in the project and collaborated to achieve this milestone as part of the “Pact for Reading” initiatives. “The renewal of the recognition,” says Remo Zaccaria, "is a new starting point to continue planning and working together so that Loano continues to read."{:}
