{:en}Loano. For the ninth consecutive year, Loano's beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag, the international recognition that Fee bestows on coastal resorts that meet certain criteria from the standpoint of water quality and services offered.
This morning the mayor of Loano, Luigi Pignocca, traveled to Rome to collect the banner: “Once again,” explained the first citizen of Loano, "the Fee has decided to reward our coastline for the quality of its waters and for the excellent services guaranteed by our bathing establishments and more generally by our city, once again decreeing the beaches of Loano among the best in Europe. Having obtained this recognition for the ninth consecutive time confirms the goodness of the environmental policies implemented in recent years by our municipality. On behalf of the administration, I want to thank the technical department and the environment office for the excellent work done in preparing the documentation and applications.".
Councillor for the Environment Manuela Zunino adds, “The parameters on the basis of which the Blue Flag is awarded are bathing water quality, wastewater purification, environmental certification, waste management, accessibility at beaches, environmental education and communication, and sustainability initiatives. All areas, these, in which our administration has long implemented concrete initiatives aimed at improving the ‘yield’ and also raising awareness among residents and tourists. Having been awarded the Blue Flag confirms the goodness of the work done so far and is a spur in continuing along this path.”.
“The Blue Flag is a symbol of quality known both in Italy and abroad,” adds Tourism Councillor Remo Zaccaria, "This means that anyone who decides to come on vacation to our city from other regions or nations will find high standards of excellence in terms of bathing and related services. This recognition is also and above all the result of the important synergies put in place with our neighboring municipalities. It is no coincidence, in fact, that so many other locations adjacent to Loano have been awarded the Blue Flag. This confirms once again how important it is, from the tourism and environmental point of view, to prepare initiatives, interventions and projects not only at the municipal level but also at the district level.".
The Blue Flag was established in 1987, the European Year for the Environment. It is awarded annually in 48 countries around the world that meet criteria related to sustainable land management. The campaign is overseen in the various countries by the Fee, Foundation for Environmental Education.{:}
