From 20 at November 26 Loano will host the international exchange “Fairytales - Fiction - Friendship Bertie the bookworm finds friends all over Europe” which will involve the Loano Boissano Comprehensive Institute Primary School under the auspices of the’Department of Social Services and Schools of the City of Loano.

At the exchange, funded by the European Commission with the program Erasmus Plus, Schools from five European countries will participate: Germany (Borkheide), United Kingdom  (Swindon), Spain (Madrid), Poland (Deszczno) and Italy (Loano).

The aim of the project is to promote joint activities on the theme of the reading to engage children and make them active and creative readers. Over the course of three years, there will be meeting times in the different project countries to share activities and exchange experiences.

The meeting at Loano will feature the following. 10 teachers and 16 children. During their week-long stay in the Ligurian town, delegations from the various schools will have the opportunity to get to know the area and follow a program of activities relevant to the project theme.

Our heroes” is the specific topic that will be explored during the exchange. Children from the partner schools prepared for the meeting by choosing their favorite book heroes: they highlighted their values, redesigned costumes and created their own heroes, describing their character and powers.

Monday, November 20, after the official opening with greetings from the Head of School. Brunella Scandura and the vice mayor Luca Lettieri, there will be an exhibition where the children will display and present the heroes of the books they love most through posters, drawings and other works. Afterwards, the children will put on the clothes of the characters they imagined and in English introduce themselves. In the following days the children will attend the Loano school, go on educational outings -- to Finalborgo to visit the Archaeological Museum and carry out a workshop on the historical theme “the Romans” and to Genoa to visit the Luzzati Museum and the “De Amicis” International Children's Library -- , and finally compete by taking part in the games of the Hero Olympics that will take place Wednesday, November 22 at 9.30 in Italy Square.

“International exchanges," say Vice Mayor Luca Lettieri and the school leader Brunella Scandura - represent a great opportunity for the children, who have the chance to meet peers of other nationalities and live with host families for a week, using the English language. This project also allows us to promote reading and explore specific topics. It will be an opportunity for personal growth for those who participate and an exchange of knowledge, views and ideas among people with different cultures. We are happy that the children of Loano can have this valuable opportunity for intercultural, social and language learning.”{:}
