Today they are widespread throughout Europe. In France there are 1,300 and they are officially recognized and sponsored by the state, in Italy there are 300 and in Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany about 500.

In Liguria the Brotherhoods currently registered are eight: the Brotherhood of the Knights of Pesto, l’Archconfraternity of Chinotto, the Brotherhood of the Mesc-ciua, the Oak Circle, l’Academy of “Savona's Chinotto”, i Knights of the Golden Bunch, the Confraternity of Ormeasco and the’Ancient Order of the Knights of Adelasia.

Almost all the Brotherhoods hold annual so-called “Chapters” that is, meetings at which parades are held in traditional hoods, products from the home area are exchanged, themes and projects are shared, and a large and lavish lunch is enjoyed.

In Liguria, the most famous and well-attended chapter is the one organized by the Knights of Adelasia, which is a very active Alassio Confraternity, founded in 2011 as a champion of Ligurian traditions not only in food and wine.
