{"id":11295,"date":"2017-11-30T11:37:50","date_gmt":"2017-11-30T10:37:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.visitloano.it\/?p=11295"},"modified":"2017-11-30T11:37:50","modified_gmt":"2017-11-30T10:37:50","slug":"conference-unitre-licona-byzantine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.visitloano.it\/en\/11295\/news\/conferenza-unitre-licona-bizantina\/","title":{"rendered":"{:en}UNITRE CONFERENCE - THE BIZANTINE ICON{:}"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{:en}<strong>PRESS RELEASE (11\/30\/2017)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday, December 2<\/strong>, a\u00a0<strong>Loano<\/strong>, to the\u00a0<strong>4 p.m.<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>at\u00a0<strong>Council Chamber in Doria Palace <\/strong>a conference entitled \u201c<strong>The Byzantine Icon<\/strong>\u201d organized by the\u2019<strong>UNITRE of Loano\u00a0<\/strong>under the auspices of the <strong>Municipality of Loano<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The theme will be explored by the Greek artist <strong>George Oikonomoy<\/strong>, now a longtime resident of Italy, an internationally renowned architect and art scholar with a passion for the subject.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oikonomoy<\/strong> will trace the process of the evolution of the Byzantine icon from its origin (12th century) and through the 16th, the fall of Byzantium and throughout the diaspora. He will analyze cultural and pictorial influences with overlapping Orthodox theological influences highlighting the extraordinary result of artworks that express the transcendent and contain in parallel and contextually the expressive capacity of each individual monk \u201cartist.\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>George Oikonomoy<\/strong>\u00a0 born in Athens in 1947 is a sculptor and painter who has lived in Genoa for many years. In 1966 he participated in an international exhibition for young artists and received a scholarship from the British Embassy.<\/p>\n<p>In 1968 he met Carlo Levi and moved to Florence to complete his studies.<\/p>\n<p>In 1970 he began his professional activity and presented exhibitions both in Italy and abroad.<\/p>\n<p>He majored in architecture in Florence.<\/p>\n<p>He returned to Genoa to devote himself to art and in 1977 in Albissola participated in the pottery exhibition and won the \u201cAlbissola Estate \u201977\u201d award.<\/p>\n<p>Among his most famous works are the large stained-glass window in the church of St. Michael the Archangel, Santa Maria del Carmine and St. Justin the Martyr in Montesignano (Genoa Molassana), the bronze monument\u00a0<em>For<\/em>\u00a0<em>Peace<\/em> \u00a0(1983) part of the San Marino Open Air Museum, the large gr\u00e9s-maiolica sculpture\u00a0<em>Giannina Gaslini a universal gesture<\/em>\u00a0placed at the entrance of the D.E.A. of the \u201cGiannina Gaslini\u201d children's hospital in Genoa.{:}<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{:en} PRESS RELEASE (11\/30\/2017) On Saturday, Dec. 2, Loano will hold a conference titled \u201cThe Byzantine Icon\u201d organized by UNITRE of Loano with the sponsorship of the City of Loano at 4 p.m. in the Council Chamber in Palazzo Doria.
