Synopsis
It is a cold Saturday in October in Milan. Miriam has just returned home. She feels strangely upset, restless. She cannot explain that strange feeling in the pit of her stomach. She only knows that the woman she caught a fleeting glimpse of in the supermarket is her old friend Elena. She is sure of it. Even though it has been a long, long time since they last saw each other. Since that tragic Sunday fifteen years earlier that changed their lives forever. Because since then nothing has been the same.
That deep friendship that bound the two women and their husbands was broken and there was no way to mend it. But now Elena has decided to return. To re-enter the life of Miriam and her family. Perhaps out of nostalgia for that bond that no longer exists. Perhaps to take back what was unjustly taken from her. Little by little, day by day, she gets closer and closer to that friend who has now become a stranger, and especially to her daughter Lucia. This beautiful 17-year-old has no idea who Elena is.
Yet she is inexplicably drawn to the allure of the woman from the past who promises her unhoped-for freedom, greater than she has ever known so far. Greater than the one her overly apprehensive mother has ever granted her. When Miriam discovers that Lucia has begun to frequent Elena's home without her knowledge, she summons all her courage as a caring and attentive mother. She cannot allow anything to happen to her daughter. Not for anything in the world. And she is ready to defend her by any means. Even to confess that guilt that has been weighing on her heart for years.
Michela Tilli was born in Savona and lives in Monza with her husband and two children. After studying philosophy, she embarked on a career as a journalist, which she later left to devote herself to fiction writing. She has been an author for TV and currently works for the theater. With Garzanti she published the novel “Every day like I was a child”.{:}
