PRESS RELEASE (4/07/2016)
Thursday, July 21, a Loano, to the 9:30 pm, in the’Prince's Garden summer arena, Vinicio Capossela will be a guest of City of Loano National Award for Italian Traditional Music.
The artist will return to Loano to present his latest project, “SONGS OF THE CUPA” (La Cùpa/Warner Music) with a brand new lineup created especially for the Premio Città di Loano award.
Vinicio Capossela's tour, like the album, is divided into two parts, one side exposed to the sun and one in the shade. “Powder”, which started on June 28 in Rome, is as Capossela himself wrote “The side exposed to the sun, the side that dries out, that dries in the wind. The side of the parched stubble, where the wheat has been harvested. The side of the labor that produced that wheat. The side of the sweat and exploitation of that labor.” and it goes well with the summer season. “Shadow”It will find its ideal setting in theaters, where it will arrive in the fall/winter.
Vinicio Capossela's latest musical project delves into folk tradition to rewrite it. From his encounter with Matthew Salvatore, (who played his last concert at Loano in 2005, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award), the journey through the sounds and stories of an ancient world begins. “These songs draw inspiration from this world. A folkloric, rural, mythical, and mythological world, which I have tried to give voice to by relying on the pre-existing work of a singer like Matteo Salvatore, and then on the heritage of village songs, and above all on that great reservoir that encompasses the epic saga of the community, that of sonnets, rhyming verses, never written down, which are sung together, voices mingling. And I found others within myself, searching for a long time among the steps, the alleys, the brambles, and the lands..Capossela explains further: ”Dust is the foam of the earth, earth dried out by the sun, the wind, time. But dust is also humus, human, the dust of those who gave us life and to whom we will return. Dust is the ephemeral roots that bind us to the earth. These songs are exposed to dryness, to the workings of dust, but they are also the earth in which the roots of these songs are sunk..”
On stage with Vinicio Capossela will be. Glauco Zuppiroli (double bass), Mirco Mariani (battery), Alessandro “Ace” Stefana (guitars), Giovannangelo De Gennaro (flutes and percussion), Sergio Palencia e Angelo Mancini (trumpets).
