“The launch of the new separate waste collection system," explains the information brochure, "will involve the entire Loano community in the major change needed to try to achieve the target of 45% of recyclable waste produced in the recyclable fractions, starting in 2016 despite the year already having begun.
Today, in Loano, of the more than 10,000 tons of urban waste produced annually, just over 28% is sorted for recycling, while the rest is sent to landfill (data from the Liguria Region for 2014).
Proper sorting is essential in order to receive payments from the packaging waste consortia for waste collected in the municipal area. Payments are made based on the quantity and quality of the material. It is necessary to produce less waste and try to recycle as many materials as possible. Only by recovering a significant portion of waste can it be treated as a valuable resource, with significant environmental and economic benefits for everyone.
Once the new system has reached optimal levels, it will offer significant benefits for citizens: lower landfill costs, elimination of the eco-taxes provided for by Regional Law No. 20/2015, and a mandatory reduction in the TARI (waste disposal tax).
With everyone's help, it will be possible to sort waste correctly and achieve results that will benefit the entire Loano community.”
