“The opposite of love” is a novel about the theme of stalking.
“What is the line between poignant passion and morbid obsession? When does love turn into its opposite? Like many young single mothers, Eva leads a hectic life trying to cope with a headstrong daughter and a tough job but one that she enjoys and is passionate about. In her rare free time, she alternates between nights at the disco and nights on lonely hearts chat sites, hoping to redeem herself from lifelong love disappointments. It is precisely on a dating site that Eva meets a man. After a couple of months, she realizes that the story does not work: despite the love the man seems to shower on her, she is unable to return it. But he is certain of the sincerity of her feelings, and is ready to do anything to win her back. In an unstoppable crescendo, the disappointment of rejection turns into rampant rage, a seesaw between pleading requests and fits of rage, intrusions and stalking, while a barrage of silent phone calls, emails and text messages punctuates Eva's fears. Like all stalking victims, she begins to feel guilty: convinced she is wrong, unfit, tempted to flee even in the face of true love, Eva will find the courage to fight back only through the experience of other women like her.”
