PRESS RELEASE (08/18/2015)
Thursday, August 20, a Loano, opera returns to the’Prince's Garden Summer Arena, in the musical seasonpromoted by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano and organized by the I.SO THeatre.
At 21.30, will be staged Tosca by Giacomo Puccini, opera in three acts, to a libretto by Joseph Giacosa e Luigi Illica.
Tosca is considered the most dramatic work of Puccini, full as it is of twists and turns and gimmicks that keep the viewer in constant tension. It is a short story of love and death.
Suggested by Victorien Sardou's drama, starring the great actress Sarah Bernardt, Giacomo Puccini decided to ask his own publisher Giulio Ricordi to take an interest in the rights to the work in order to get permission to set it to music.
The opera was performed at the Costanzi in Rome on January 14, 1900, and after its triumphant debut it was successfully performed in theaters all over the world.
The action takes place in Rome in the 1800, after the failure of the Roman Republic. The Papal State is capturing the representatives and supporters of the Republic, and the lives of the painter Mario Cavaradossi and his lover Tosca intersect Cesare Angelotti, a patriot who has escaped from the Pope's prisons. On the fugitive's trail is the papal police chief, Baron Scampia, who, in love with Tosca, takes advantage of the situation to win the woman. The dramatic opera ends in tragedy: the fugitive dies, the villain Scampia dies at Tosca's hands, the painter dies, and finally Tosca dies by suicide.”
The staging is curated by the’“Return to the Work” Association”. Floria Tosca will be played by Noema Grass,Mario Cavaradossi from Andrea Elena, Baron Scarpia from Ivan Marino, the sacristan from Claudio Ottino and the characters Angelotti, Sciarrone and Carceriere from Ohyoung Know, Spoletta fromRaphael Feo.
