PRESS RELEASE (9/4/2015)

Saturday, April 11, a Loano, to the 5 p.m., in the Council Chamber of Doria Palace, the presentation of the volume “Lodani mirabilia - The Wonders of Loano” curated by art expert Claudia Ghiraldello.

The meeting will be opened by a talk by the Mayor of Loano, Luigi Pignocca which will be followed by the insights of the’Lawyer Stefano Carrara Sutour and the author herself.

The book, which in itself brings together the characteristics of an art text and a Loano discovery guide, as the title well defines, highlights particular aspects of the city that arouse wonder, particularly in the art-historical sphere. Some already edited and shared, others unpublished. This is because in her journey as an art expert and author of art texts Ghiraldello has always favored researching and publishing elements never before found, never before known. And at Loano there are many unpublished realities that the author wanted to include in her research. These are religious works: statues, wall paintings, canvases, panels, even some buildings themselves, never before this work analyzed. But it is also about works of art traced in places of secular character, in particular we refer to the complex of works preserved and here for the first time disclosed within private mansions. The great Loano lineages, Carrara house, Maccagli house, Garrassini Garbarino house, Molle house, Olivieri house, of which the author had the privilege of studying the relevant dwellings, proved to be a valuable treasure chest of data opened here for the first time.

“Loano is enriched with a new editorial work. - says the mayor Luigi Pignocca - “Lodani mirabilia - The Wonders of Loano” offers itineraries that have in common the desire to show the beauty of the city and its treasures, more or less hidden. Claudia Ghiraldello, an art expert as well as a frequent visitor to Loano, has been able to capture unseen aspects of the city. Her love of research led her to dwell on the details, thus giving us the opportunity to see up close works that we miss on a daily basis. For the first time, our city's historic homes are being opened and the treasures they hold become common heritage and a source of pride for the people of Loano. This new publication, which adds to the wealth of volumes dedicated to Loano, is an invitation to appreciate the many unique historical and artistic treasures in our area. I thank the author for her gift to Loano. It is a precious gift that is a sign of love for our city and an honor to be able to share it with the entire Loano community.”

In the book a chapter a is devoted to the township of Verzi, once an autonomous municipality and later incorporated into Loano. The focus is on the complex of churches and chapels preserved here. During the research work, the author traced names of artists and patrons, dates, events, and emotions of a past time that she has resurfaced. A few pages are then devoted to the museum of the sea housed in the Kursaal Palace, where there are grand testimonies of Lovran's seafaring industry. History is intertwined with ethnography, and an exciting picture emerges.

The book was edited by Amadeo of Chiusanico, Imperia.
