Sunday, March 22, a Loano,will kick off lecture series on historical topics. “History Conversations in Art.” sponsored by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano.

The initiative, curated for the scientific part by the’International Institute of Ligurian Studies and carried out in collaboration with the’Unitre of Loano, proposes five appointments with authoritative speakers to recount some significant historical moments that marked the development of the city. The lectures will be held on Sunday afternoons at 3:30 pm at Civic Library at Kursaal Palace.

“Loano possesses an artistic-architectural heritage of great value," says Mayor Luigi Pignocca - and the new cultural project of historical lectures was created to promote among the people of Lovran and tourists the rediscovery of such treasures.”

This is why we enthusiastically welcomed the project of the Institute of Ligurian Studies, which in a simple and appealing way will help us design an artistic itinerary in our city, which can be retraced by tourists during their vacations.”

“The history conversations," explains Gianmaria Mandara of the Institute of Ligurian Studies-are rooted in the rich cultural heritage that still exists in Loano, which allows us to reconstruct some of the major historical events that marked antiquity and the modern age. The archaeological findings in Piazza Italia, the route of the Roman road Iulia Augusta with its bridges, the mosaic on display in the Town Hall, and the buildings and monuments commissioned by the Doria family will be the cue for the narratives of the review's guest experts.”

The first meeting, titled “Loano 1795: historical reconnaissance of military events and evidence research” (March 22), will see Luke Piston, a member of the Homeland History Society, reconstruct the context in which the battle of Loano took place, within the broader framework of the wars between Revolutionary France and the First Coalition.

The second Sunday between history and art will be held on the March 29, in the company of Valeria Polonius, professor of Church History at the University of Genoa. The meeting entitled. “Medieval Loano between politics and ecclesia” will be devoted to the main political and religious events that marked the city in the medieval age.

The April 12 the focus of the history conversation will be “The Golden Age of Dorias at Loano” and the April 19 “The Dorias and the Counter-Reformation in the Artistic Production of Loano” who will see Gianmaria Mandara, a member of the International Institute of Ligurian Studies, recount the life and activities of Gian Andrea Doria, who, in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, changed the face of Loano, in a period marked by profound changes that resulted in a new sensibility, including artistic.

The last meeting (May 10) titled “Loano and its territory.” will see Bruno Massabò, former Superintendent for the Archaeological Heritage of Liguria, will close this lecture series with a leap into the more distant past: in fact, the author will expound on the results of archaeological excavation campaigns conducted in recent years in the Loano area, ranging from protohistoric findings to more recent ones from the Roman period.
