{:en}On Saturday, March 3, at Loano, the 11th edition of ’Flying Disks... close encounters with records, books, words and sounds“ will kick off, promoted by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano and organized by the Company of the Curious Association.

Opening the 2018 edition of the festival of meetings with musicians, songwriters and music journalists will be the concert-territorial selection from northwest Italy of the “Suonare@Folkest - Alberto Cesa Prize” competition, which will entitle the participants to participate in the final evenings of Folkest 2018, a historic festival held in Friuli.

Two bands and one singer-songwriter have acquired the right to participate in the selection and will compete musically on the Loano evening. They are: T'Ses Folk, La Quadrilla, Alberto Frattini.

Starting at 9 p.m. in the civic library in Kursaal Palace, we will get into the thick of the competition. Opening the evening will be T'Ses Folk, an original and lighthearted name for a group of musicians who for many years have been offering Occitan, Franco-Provençal, Breton and international music that is always current, engaging and of high quality. Performing will be Laura Sartore (vocals), Giovanna Garzena (flutes), Ivan Ravalli (accordion), Claudio Provaroni (guitar), Gianni Petta (percussion and bass).

Then it will be the turn of Genoese singer-songwriter Alberto Frattini whose roots are in Italian popular music: from his piano and guitar studies to his experiences with the Orchestre di Liscio of maestros Zanti and Camoirano, from his collaboration with Maestro Natale Romano of Rai in Genoa, which brought him closer to dialectal song, to the Rivista Musicale Goliardica “La Baistrocchi.” Experiences that leave a strong imprint on the singer-songwriter and performer.

The evening will close with “La Quadrilla,” a lineup that offers songwriting with fast-paced rhythms and psychedelic atmospheres, with committed lyrics that ironically recount the rage for a world where Mafia, pollution and racism rule. Nicola Lollino (vocals and on bellows), Toni Urzì (harmonious guitar), Gianni Pitzalis (rhythms), Amedeo Saluzzo (big strings) will play. The evening will be conducted by journalist Alfredo Sgarlato.

After hosting the Folkest selection, the 2018 program will get into full swing, dedicated to first and second works by established artists and young musicians. Concerts and meetings will take place in the Loano Civic Library starting at 9 p.m.

The program is also carried out with funds from the call for promotion art. 7 L. 93/92 audio sector year 2017, which aims to encourage the promotion of artists“ recording projects, bringing the public closer to the pleasure of listening to live music, with regard to the ”unpublished“ and ”original" repertoire, supporting the circulation of live performances with special attention to that of artists entering the record market.

“The review of ‘Dischi Volanti...’ is one of the most anticipated events in our very rich calendar of events, an unmissable moment for anyone who loves music at 360 degrees - explain the mayor of Loano Luigi Pignocca and the councillor for tourism, culture and sports Remo Zaccaria - Over the years, leading songwriters and bands have stopped in our city, as well as journalists, writers and music experts of the highest level. A review that together with the ‘National Award City of Loano for Traditional Italian Music’ opens an interesting window on our music and offers the opportunity to learn about and explore genres, artists and new productions that animate the varied Italian music scene. Once again Loano will give established artists and promising young musicians and songwriters the opportunity to present their new works. And who knows, maybe the next Sanremo finalist will be hidden among them, as has been the case in the past two years.”.

The first “debut work” project presented at Loano will be “Da Spunda” (Visage Music SAS, 2016) by Gigi Biolcati (April 14, 2018). A drummer, percussionist, and composer, he fuses in his drumming sonorities and grooves inspired by both the drumming and ethnic percussion traditions, in which the tribal aspect of rhythm contaminated by techno-post-industrial sounds shines through. Cajon, tabla, djembe, kalimba, trinkets, vocals, body percussion, slotted and stringed sound boxes, and wooden drawers played barefoot with a technique reminiscent of flamenco and tip-tap steps are the ingredients that create interesting and colorful polyrhythms.

The review will continue with Franco Boggero who will present his live album “Una punta da cinque” (Musikat Productions, 2017) (April 21). An art historian, he has worked in the Soprintendenza since 1981 and is involved in the cultural heritage of western Liguria, directing restorations and organizing exhibitions. He has been writing songs (lyrics and music) since the 1970s; encouraged by Giorgio Conte, he has been singing them in public since the late 1990s, always accompanied on piano by Marco Spiccio, an appreciated ’cultural agitator’ in the songwriting milieu.

He will be accompanied by Federico Bagnasco (double bass), Marco Spiccio (piano), Paolo Maffi (sax), and Daviano Rotella (drums). In dialogue with the artist will be music journalist Enrico de Angelis.

The presentation of the album “Wild Creatures” (Strike Records, 2016) by “La Stanza di Greta” will take place on April 28. The Turin-based music collective started playing by chance in 2009 at a solidarity initiative. Since then they follow concerts in many Italian festivals and venues. In September 2013 comes the victory at the national Lanterne Rock award for songwriting. In 2016 the group is a finalist at the l'Artista che non c'era award, in 2017 they get the “Un Certain Regard” plaque at Musicultura. In 2017 they released “Creature selvagge,” the debut album by La Stanza di Greta, which won the Targa Tenco for Best First Work, chosen by a jury of 200 music critics. The group will dialogue with music journalist Guido Festinese.

Closing the 2018 edition of the festival will be Mara Redeghieri (May 12) with the presentation of the album “Recidiva” (LullaBit, 2017). Her musical journey began in 1990 with her debut as leader and voice of the historic Reggio Emilia group Ustmamò, which won over Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, their first producer along with Massimo Zamboni of CSI. He collaborated in the writing of Gianna Nannini's album “Dispetto” (1994) and in writing the lyrics for the closing track of Gabriele Salvatores“ film ”Denti“. Recent projects include ”Al Cusna“ Ethnos productions, filmdocumentary and ”Dio valzer & attanadara," studies on anarchist and revolt songs with Lorenzo Valdesalici and Nicola Bonacini on instruments.{:}
