Thursday, December 14 is scheduled, in Loano, a new excursion for outdoor walking enthusiasts. The weekly destination of the program “Loano not only sea”, curated by the Loano section of the C.A.I.. under the auspices of the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Municipality of Loano, will be the churches of Verezzi (m 321).

The meeting for participants will be at 8:30 a.m. In the Valerga Square parking lot.

“We are proposing this week a classic winter excursion of Loano not only sea, - explains Beppe Peretti, CAI hiking guide of Loano - rich in naturalistic, historical and cultural aspects, with a variation to the usual route in the first half of the itinerary.

The starting point of the hike will be the level crossing of Borgio, and passing through the town center you will reach the location of the Valdemino caves. Shortly afterwards you will leave the asphalt road to continue along the via delle Strine and then in the so-called via dei Ciumpi, taking advantage first of a dirt road and then of a stony path. You will then cross ancient terraces planted with olive trees and large areas where the Mediterranean scrub has taken over, and you will reach a dirt road and a final little path that will take you to the Bastia Tower, the highest point of the trip, an ancient control post and classic watchtower over all the surrounding territory.

From the Tower of Bastia a convenient flat road, passing under the Phoenician Mill, will lead us to the splendid panoramic balcony formed by the square of the churches of Verezzi, an ideal dining hall for our lunch stop.

The return will take place through the four historic hamlets of Verezzi (Crosa, Roccaro, Piazza and Poggio), typical examples of Mediterranean architecture among the best preserved in the entire Ligurian arch. After the hamlets another short visit to the charming Antica Cava, and a last scenic path on the sea will finally take us back to the level crossing from which we started.

The excursion is free. For non-CAI members to participate in the outing, accident and mountain rescue insurance is required, which must be requested by noon on the day before the activity is to be held by calling 019.67.23.66 or 349.78.54.220.{:}
