{:en}PRESS RELEASE (7/12/2017)
Sunday, December 10 a Loano will continue the review Books under the tree organized by the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano in cooperation with from the bookstore Mondadori Book Store Loano.
Protagonist of the meeting will be the author Francis Carofiglio who will present his latest novel “The Master” (Piemme, 2017).
A man and his loneliness, an equally lonely girl thirsting for knowledge, an apartment in the heart of Rome and a boundless love for Shakespeare and acting. These are the main ingredients of Carofiglio's novel, which once again unveils an intimate and universal reality, in which existence takes on authentic meaning only in the sharing of the moment, and in the connection with the other. Even the most unthinkable.
Leading the meeting will be the curator of the review Graziella Frasca Gallo. Musical and singing accompaniment will be provided by the Master Roberto Sinito.
“Books under the tree," says Councillor Remo Zaccaria - is one of the reading promotion projects that the City of Loano has been carrying out for seven years now and which, together with other initiatives (Culture Tuesdays, Dischi Volanti... close encounters with sounds, music and words and the many presentations curated by UNITRE Loano, Proloco and bookstores) has helped to determine the awarding of our city with the status of “city reading” by the circuit of the Center for Books and Reading (Cepell). Meetings with authors over the Christmas period close out a very satisfying year crowned with important recognition in the cultural sphere.”
Synopsis
Corrado Lazzari was the greatest actor of the 20th century. The face of Shakespearean tragedy, the sophisticated and powerful performer, acclaimed by audiences around the world, is now a lonely man. Fame, success, friends, all lost.
The days chase each other, the same, in an apartment of an abandoned building in the center of Rome. Corrado rearranges the archive of a lifetime, newspapers, photographs, scripts, mixing the fragility of the present with memories of the past: the years at the Academy of Dramatic Art, the tours around the world and the great lost love for Francesca. It seems that everything must continue like this, identical to itself, until the end.
Then one day she arrives, and everything changes. Alessandra is young, in her early twenties, and studying literature with a theatrical emphasis, so she tells the Master as she introduces herself. Shy and awkward, she tries to enter Lazzari's life. The man's initial reluctance is swept away by the youth's eagerness to know. And through the words of theater, those that filled his essence, Corrado will perhaps discover, together with that girl, the way to accept his own fall and make himself immortal in the same, perfect instant.
Writer, architect and filmmaker, Francis Carofiglio Was born in Bari, Italy.
