Saturday, November 18, a Loano, the meeting with the author will be held. Carmine Valendino, sponsored by the bookstore Mondadori Book Store Loano under the auspices of the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano.
At 5 p.m., in the bookstore at 150 Garibaldi Street, the Apulian writer will present his new work Chaos (2017, Black Moon), a collection of short stories.
It is stated in the preface of the book edited by Emaneula D'Efraim “There is in the stories of Chaos an almost immediate presentation of the themes that will imprint the narrative: loneliness conjugated in all people; the (sometimes illusory) comfort of landscape and nature; the desperate attempt to recover dialogue with the Other, even beyond death; the disruptive power of “eloquent silence” (one of the oxymorons perhaps most in keeping with the Author), often conveyed by eye-play, as occurs in the short stories Those eyes e The gaze of Judith, where the space-time dimension disappears, intersects with other spaces, other worlds, to give the Author the opportunity to weep and smile at himself. Such writing, only seemingly in a subdued stimmung, touches deep moments of emotion and pathos when confronted with the senseless pain of the innocent victims. In the face of such suffering, rare are the moments of stillness allowed to the Author, a mute witness. Thus it can happen, as in a modern fairy tale, that an encounter, in an atmosphere of other times, turns into a magical moment that marks, perhaps, a resumption of the dual: then the narrative goes fast, becomes agile, the tale has wings at its feet... The ultimate resistances of the heart fall.“
Carmine Valendino, a graduate in Modern Literature from the University of Bari, has been teaching high school literature in Lombardy for more than 30 years.
