From Nov. 9 to 15 a Loano the Federal Center for Advanced Specialization in Sailing of Italian Sailing Federation will host the training of the Finn class.
The athletic training activity, organized under the auspices of the’Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the City of Loano and the cooperation of the Nautical Circle Loano, will see as federal technician George Poggi.
The sailor from Ingauno, began his sports career with the Laser Class, achieving important placings: he won the Class Championship in Otranto in 2004 and the International Regatta in Barcelona. He won the Silver Medal at the Italian Olympic Classes Championship. In 2006 he switched to the Finn Class achieving good results: 6 times Gold Medal at the Italian Championships and participation in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He trained with the strongest sailors on boats made with high-tech materials and with the best coaches to achieve maximum results. He won the Gold Medal at the 2012 Italian Championship, the Swiss & Global Cup on Dighy Classico, and was again Gold Medalist at the Italian SB-20 Championship. In 2011, he joined the Sailing Team of Green Comm Racing, America's Cup Challenger.
The training of young sailors curated by George Poggi will aim to refine the technique, the strategy and the running the boats.
Also in November, the Federal Center will serve as a training base for the Women's 49er class (Nov. 13/18) and the Men's 49er class (Nov. 20/25).
The national athletic preparation events, which have already been taking place at Loano for more than a month, have enjoyed the excellent weather conditions. The beautiful and warm days of this autumn have contributed to the smooth running of the federal program.
The men's and women's 49er Class teams will continue to alternate in December.
Also from the Nov. 13 to 18 will take place on Italian Sailing Federation first level instructor course coordinated by the trainer Alessio Picciotti With the presence of faculty members: Francesco Barreca, Giancarlo Borghero, Enrico Calvini, Vittorio D'Albertas, Alessandro Delitala, Luca De Pedrini, Luisa Franza, Maurizio Manzoli, Filippo Pastorini, Gianfranco Sibello, Claudio Uras, Sergio Vaggi.
The Federal Center for Advanced Specialization in Sailing opened last August in the Loano Marina is one of the national athletic training venues of the Italian Sailing Federation. The center is a permanent sports area where collegiate gatherings, seminars and courses for athletes and IVF technical staff, national and international regattas and events aimed at promoting sailing are hosted.
The center, which is housed in the multi-purpose hall on the quayside level near the fishermen's square, was established through a memorandum of understanding between the Municipality of Loano, the Italian Sailing Federation and the Marina of Loano with the support of the Nautical Circle Loano.
In the facility other than the offices are the multimedia teaching rooms, gymnasium and event presentation areas.{:}
