{:en}PRESS RELEASE (2/11/2017)
Saturday, November 4, a Loano, to the 4 p.m., at Council Chamber in Doria Palace the presentation of the book “We a point in the universe” simple history of astronomy (Marsilio, 2016), organized by the’UNITRE of Loano under the auspices of the Municipality of Loano.
Written by Raffaella Ranise In the introduction, the volume is described as follows, “the book was born from the author's meeting with two great astrophysicists, Margherita Hack and her student Francesca Matteucci. The latter closely followed the writing of the book, trying to reveal the secrets of the universe to those who know nothing about the matter. The result is an account of man's journey through astronomical notions, from the first uncertain observations to the exceptional discoveries of the present day. The book traces in simple and clear terms the history of thought, from the earliest Greek thinkers to the philosophers of the Middle Ages, to Kepler and Galileo, to modern science, to observation that overcomes the worldview stuck in geocentrism. The century that made it possible to understand the universe was the twentieth century, with protagonists such as Einstein and Hubble, whose discoveries could only come about because of the premises of the past.”
The author will dialogue with the president of UNITRE Loano. Umberta Bolognesi.
Raffaella Ranise, born in Imperia, graduated in law from the University of Genoa. She has collaborated with the chair of labor law at the same university, at the Imperia campus. For the past few years she has devoted herself to writing. In 2013 she published for Longanesi, together with Giuseppina Tripodi, “Rita Levi Montalcini: adding life to the days.”.{:}
